Since the beginning, Alpine Meadows has provided an authentic, unaltered winter resort lacking
nothing but pretense. Even in 1959 when a group of investors drafted the first prospectus for Alpine
Meadows, the vision of the pending winter resort was to provide unique terrain to focus on open
bowls and tree runs versus cleared trails. Alpine Meadows is a rare combination of high glacial valleys
and cirques with a wide variety of open slopes and sparsely scattered clumps of fir, hemlock and
pine. Even then, outdoor enthusiasts pondered the special beauty of the mountains that would become Alpine Meadows. Considered a local’s favorite place to ski, professional and rental services are available. Alpine Meadows is also home to Tahoe Adaptive Ski School where individuals with disabilities can learn to ski. Terrain: 2,400 acres, 25% beginner, 40% intermediate, 35% expert; Vertical Drop: 1,802 feet; Lifts: 14.

Northstar at Tahoe is widely recognized at the family mountain.  With an award winning ski and snowboard school, tubing, ice skating, childcare and the majority of trails being either beginner or intermediate, family ski trips are a breeze here. Park goers also love coming here; Northstar boasts having seven terrain parks and the biggest superpipe in the area at 420 ft. Verdi Trails West offers sleigh rides through the Squaw Valley Meadow. Guests ride in a handcrafted, horse-drawn open sleigh that can accommodate groups of two to nine. Squaw Valley is a 20 minute drive from Truckee. Shuttles are available to take guests directly from the Squaw Valley Resort parking lot to the meadow and warm blankets are provided.

Wilderness Adventures offers a 2.5 mile dog sledding tour through the scenic Squaw Valley Meadow. A team of eight to ten Alaskan Huskies is lead by an experienced race guide. Tours are approximately one-hour long. The trip includes a shuttle to take guests directly from the Squaw Valley Resort parking lot to the meadow. Commons Beach
This four-plus-acre park is located on the Lake in downtown Tahoe City. Commons Beach Park is popular for sunbathing, swimming and picnicking. Group picnic sites and children’s playgrounds are located within a large lakefront grass and sand area. Bring your chairs, blankets and towels. There are free concerts on Sunday afternoons during the summer. Enjoy lunch within walking distance at Bridgetender or Front St. Station Pizza.

King’s Beach State Recreation Area

King’s Beach State Recreation Area features Ponderosa Pine and small brush covering the park’s 700 feet of lake frontage area. This day-use only area is popular for water sports during the summer with kayak, jet ski and paddle boat rentals available. Popular lunch restaurants, such at Steamer’s and Jason’s, offer casual outdoor seating and are located a short walk away. The park is located in downtown King’s Beach.

This Nevada State Park on the east shore is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Surrounded by the smooth lake rocks that are popular in Lake Tahoe photographs, this cove gives shelter to waves caused by wind or watercraft. Home to the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival in the summer months, this park also has a boat launch, picnic area, casual restaurant and group facilities.
